My letter to New Media Age. (www.nma.co.uk)

We take issue with the media reporting of Radiohead's sale of their album digitally for anything from 1p. This wasn’t a "wake up call" for the music industry but a smart marketing stunt. The amount of attention they attracted is priceless. Ironically they are protecting the status quo. The sanctity of the album format is intact and the physical release will feature bonus tracks. For those who reject CDs and may have paid a “fair price” for the downloads this is a nasty surprise. Shouldn't the digital package feature the bonus tracks?

Radiohead should be applauded for using the internet for what it’s best: communication. What they haven’t done is innovate the way we buy music and anyway it’s not their job.  There's an entire industry out there to do that.
